Understanding European Criminology

Europe has room for further developments in research related to violent crime and homicide. Compared to many commonwealth nations such as the UK or US, Europe does not have a long history of studying the nature of violent crime or homicide. In fact, an overwhelming amount of such research often comes from organisations in the United States and is used in reference to violence that take place on the European continent. It is essential, however, that culturally, politically, historically and sociologically different nations have locally or regionally-established research with such complex social issues. Homicide and violent crime look different based on their home. It is therefore necessary to have detailed, nuanced and both nationally and culturally sound criminological research.

Who we are

ECHVCR (est. 2024) is dedicated to contributing to the growth of solved violent crimes, reducing instances of criminal violence, extending awareness and information pertaining to homicides and violence across Europe and advocating for both the support of victims and the rehabilitation of violent offenders. Together, we strive to educate the public on violent crimes, return names to victims and assist police and other investigatory bodies in their cases.

Crime and bad lives are the measure of a State's failure, all crime in the end is the crime of the community.” — H.G. Wells
